Executive Director Update - March 2020

March 25th, 2020

Just to let you know, our April meeting (normally in Leduc) will likely just be a ZOOM meeting given the current restrictions around travel and gatherings. We will have to wait a bit to decide on the AGM in June.

  • A reminder to cancel your room reservations in Banff. Some of the hotels are shutting down temporarily and we wouldn’t want anyone to get charged for hotel rooms they won’t be using.

  • If you have a Facebook account feel free to send me a friend request https://www.facebook.com/rbaalim and then I’ll add you to my VSU Friends group which will also include copies of any updates. I searched for most of you but some of you either don’t have an account or maybe it’s under a different name. If you don’t, and I have an alternate email for you, that works just fine too.

  • According to JSG, VS is not considered an essential service during a pandemic.

  • Job Opportunity: ED – Leduc & District Victim Services – See attachment

  • Quarterly & Annual Reporting: I am seeking an answer to the question as to whether or not the due dates on these will be extended or not.

I hope you are all staying well and healthy and relaxing a little bit or at least tackling some things you’ve not had the time to do in recent months – I have lots of those projects on the go.

Take care and stay well. Spring is on its way even though it’s still snowing – I can feel it in the air!

Subject: Update: March 25, 2020

Good morning to you all,

Just to let you know, our April meeting (normally in Leduc) will likely just be a zoom meeting given the current restrictions around travel and gatherings.  We will have to wait a bit to decide on the AGM in June.

Update – March 18th, 2020

Further to my update on Monday and the subsequent announcement from the Alberta Government that we are in a public health crisis the Association has been communicating closely with Julie’s department (JSG – Victims Services).

It is vitally important that given the unprecedented nature of this situation that everyone utilize the government of Alberta website https://www.alberta.ca/index.aspx as their guide to decision making on a professional and personal level.

We have agreed to funnel ALL information/questions re: COVID-19 through JSG’s office for the foreseeable future to ensure that everyone is getting consistent messaging and information consistent with Provincial directives.  If access to your worksite is restricted, please abide by that direction, go home and focus on staying healthy, implement some mental wellness practices, spend quality time with your family, enjoy not being on call, etc.  When restrictions are lifted you will be contacted by your employer.

As such, I will not need any personal information or staffing schedules from you at this time.

Personally, I will continue to work and have access to my email and phone and the Association will continue to meet and move forward with tasks unrelated to this particular issue.

Kind regards, stay healthy & well.
