Just a note about what AB Justice & Solicitor General will, or more importantly, not be able to share with us further to the release of the Provincial Budget, on October 24th.

NOTE:  AB JSG Victims Services do not get any advance notice of the specifics of the budget, and it is unknown whether or not there will be any specific breakdown on the Justice and Solicitor General portfolio for Victims Services.  Even if there is some basic information, there will not be time for them to sufficiently analyze that information prior to our meeting on the 25th.  In other words, they really won’t know any more than any of us, come Friday. Julie Peacock reached out to us and assured me that once they have the information and have had an opportunity to analyze it, they plan to engage and discuss what they can with the Association.  We’ve also had the same message reinforced by Kathy Collins, ED, Policy & Program Development, AB JSG.  Rest assured that further information and direction will be coming from the Minister in due time.

Understanding Financial Statements for Nonprofits

If you or one of your board members participated in this presentation Wednesday morning, could you kindly complete the attached evaluation form and return it to me.  Thanks!

If anyone is interested in an evening presentation (more practical for board members to attend), let me know & I’ll set up a time with more advance notice and maybe a little more time.  I would recommend this for ALL board members, not just your Treasurer as it speaks to their ultimate responsibility.

APBVSA Pay & Salary Comparison 2019

This is the updated version of the APBVSA Personnel Survey.  Please keep a copy of this handy for yourselves and feel free to share it with your Board.  We want to note that the results of the annual APBVSA Personnel Survey is the ONLY survey that compares basic wages/salaries and benefits of Victim Service Program Managers (ie. comparing apples to apples).  It is not a salary grid but rather a document that provides a snapshot in time and when comparing past years’ results and shows the positive progress made across the Province in advocating for fair pay and benefits for program managers across the Province.  It is ONE resource that employees and employers should be utilizing to negotiate and justify pay and salary changes.  There are two other surveys for nonprofits referred to in this document.

Understanding Financial Statements for Nonprofits

I’ve arranged for an informal webinar with Canadian Professional Accountants Canada on understanding Financial Statements for nonprofits.  Sorry for the short notice but I just got this confirmed yesterday, in the late afternoon.  This is a recommended session for PMs and for all board members.  If it goes well, we will try to arrange another, possibly in the evening to better accommodate board members.

If you intend on joining us – you must be on a standalone computer.  I will forward out the documents in advance to those wanting them or attending the session.

APBVSA Professional Development – October 21/22nd in Olds

We currently have sufficient registrants so we are a “GO” for this training.  We still have space so don’t hesitate to email Karen at APBVSA_assist@victimservicesalberta.com asap.

2020 Conference Registration

Just a reminder that Conference Registration opens to non-members and the general public on October 16th so please ensure that you register asap! You don’t have to pay until February!  Also – book your rooms as they fill up fast.  Details for Banff Centre and contracted hotels are on the website.

Check out the Conference Website:   www.victimserviceconference.com for all the details and direct links to registration, information on speakers, conference program, etc.

  • Pre-Conference is open to everyone and we anticipate high registrations for Deb deWaal as she is phenomenal

  • If you can pay by cheque – that saves the Association a lot of additional fees

  • Book your rooms as they fill up fast at either Banff Centre or their chosen hotel (see website/accommodation for preferred rates) as availability of Banff accommodation is ‘fickle’.  It only takes one big conference to roll into town and we lose accommodation.  The good news is that most hotels have a 48/72-hour cancellation policy, better booked in Banff now than driving from Canmore!

  •

We encourage you to check the website regularly or follow the Conference Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/BanffConference/  for updates and help us by sharing with your police service, Commander, Liaison, community partners and contacts!  Many of our speakers provide valuable information for many different individuals & community services.

Member Orientation Package – request from Lacombe VS

I am wondering if you could help me out and send this question out to the entire membership.  I would like to create a Member Orientation manual for my members. I have a few new ones, and why re-create the wheel if someone has one already.
